Lapping is a processing method in which a product is placed on a flat disk-shaped table called a lapping machine. Abrasive (in an oil or water based carrier) will be poured on the product, and pressure will apply from above and below to polish the product. Lapping provides a way of making surfaces and edge faces extremely flat, smooth, finished and polished.
Polishing compound, uses abrasive grains and powders to smooth or shine substrates such as metal, plastic, wood or other materials. The abrasive grain is combined with a grease solution and either solidified or liquified to create a compound.
Buffing is defined as a finishing process that involves the use of a loose abrasive on a wheel. To polish a work-piece, a manufacturing company may use a wheel that’s covered with an abrasive disc. The loose abrasive on the disc essentially removes superficial material and imperfections, thereby creating a smoother surface.
