Lapping is a processing method in which a product is placed on a flat disk-shaped table called a lapping machine. Abrasive (in an oil or water based carrier) will be poured on the product, and pressure will apply from above and below to polish the product. Lapping provides a method to make surfaces and edges extremely flat, smooth, refined, and polished. The goal of grinding is to achieve high levels of surface flatness and finish, commonly used in precision industries such as optics, semiconductor manufacturing, and aerospace.
Aluminum Oxide Abrasive Grains can be used for grinding and polishing softer materials such as aluminum, copper metals, plastics, wood, rubber, as well as ceramics and glass surfaces that do not require extremely high hardness. Silicon Carbide Abrasive Grains are typically used for grinding harder materials like ceramics, glass, and stone, providing fine surface finishes along with excellent material removal rates.
Polishing is a process used to create a high-gloss, mirror-like surface on workpieces. In polishing, abrasive particles are typically finer than those used in grinding and are applied to soft rotating polishing wheels. This process is generally the final stage of surface finishing after grinding or polishing.
Aluminum Oxide Abrasive Grains are suitable for polishing metals, plastics, and wood. They deliver smooth surfaces and are commonly used with softer polishing wheels to create a bright, glossy finish. Silicon Carbide Abrasives Grains, on the other hand, are used for polishing harder materials such as stone, glass, and ceramics. Due to their sharpness and ability to produce fine finishes, they are highly effective for polishing.
Whether you are performing precise grinding or aiming for a mirror-like polished finish, selecting the appropriate abrasive ensures the best results.
