Alumina Based Abrasive is mainly an abrasive containing Aluminum Oxide(Al2O3) , the Mohs hardness scale is 9.0. The common Alumina Base Abrasive includes Brown Fused Alumina, White Fused Alumina, Pink Fused Alumina, Black Fused Alumina, Monocrystalline Alumina, Zirconia Alumina and Ceramic Aluminum oxide.
Brown Fused Alumina or Brown Fused Aluminum Oxide is an abrasive with a content of 2-4% TiO2 to further enhance toughness, which is in a wide variety of uses including Bonded Abrasives, Coated Abrasives, Non-woven Abrasives, Lapping, Refractory and Industrial markets; probably the most widely used abrasive.
White Fused Alumina or White Fused Aluminum Oxide is an abrasive with high chemical purity (>99% Al2O3), generally used for applications where high purity is important; It is friable, typically is blocky shaped, used in grinding applications where a more friable product is desired.
Pink Fused Alumina or Chromium Aluminum Oxide is White Fused Alumina with Cr2O3 to enhance grinding. According to the chromium content, the color of chrome fused alumina shows pink or ruby. A pink abrasive used in grinding applications requiring slightly more toughness than White Fused Alumina.
Black fused Alumina is an abrasive with low chemical purity (60-85% Al2O3), which is made by fusing high aluminum bauxite, high iron bauxite and other elements in an arc-furnace. Black fused alumina has the characteristics of good self-sharpness, less heat on the surface of work-pieces when cutting, grinding and polishing, which makes them avoid burning and has a good finished surface.
Monocrystalline Alumina, as known as blue single crystal fused alumina, which is a fused abrasive produced by fusing high purity alumina with special alloys. Each particle is a single crystal with nano-layered structures. It appears light blue color and multi-edged with strong toughness, strong hydrophilicity, high hardness characteristics.
Zirconia-Alumina is the toughest of the alumina based products. It has alumina-zirconia eutectic crystalline structure typically consists of alumina with 20 to 40 percent zirconia concentration, which enhances the toughness of the alumina; used in Bonded Abrasives, Coated Abrasives and Sandblasting applications requiring an extra tough abrasive.
Ceramic Aluminum Oxide, as know as Sol-Gel Abrasive, is a high-purity fine-grained alumina obtained from sintering dispersed colloidal alumina. This provides a tough product primarily used for precision grinding of steels and hard alloys.
